NAB 2026 represented an industry inflection point. The conference shifted from theoretical AI discussions to practical implementation demands. Talking with attendees, EditShare CEO Brad Turner and VP of Engineering Lon Barrett identified four themes that defined the show.

1. Moving toward analytical utility

The industry consensus has moved beyond "if" to adopt AI toward "how" to implement it. Professionals now favor analytical AI applications, speech-to-text, facial detection, logo identification, and shot detection, over generative models. The focus is on AI as a support tool for metadata enrichment, enabling semantic search that helps editors locate assets from memory rather than rigid naming conventions.

2. Infrastructure for the content creator economy

NAB 2026 attracted more individual creators and mid-tier production teams than previous years. These emerging producers want sustainable growth paths for their infrastructure, starting with cloud tools like MediaSilo and transitioning to on-premise storage as their libraries expand.

The conversation moved from whether to adopt AI to how to operationalize it across real media workflows.

3. The economics of hybrid workflows

Cost discussions have matured beyond a simple cloud-versus-on-premise debate. Organizations increasingly evaluate Total Cost of Ownership, recognizing that storing massive "cold" data archives in the cloud carries prohibitive long-term expense, which is driving renewed interest in on-premise and hybrid solutions.

4. The shift in vendor responsibility

Companies must navigate complex tool ecosystems thoughtfully. The expectation now is for integrated solutions that reduce friction and ensure compatibility with third-party applications like Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve Studio.

NAB 2026 was the year the great media reset stopped being a talking point and became the plan.
